Making a Box
Each box began it's life as a cigar box. Each has a different life patina which I attempt to enhance. The process begins with multiple coats of Tung oil, then many coats of yacht varnish with sanding between each coat and finally to a hand rubbed finish. The pen sections are cut from Padauk wood which is a nice textured and richly colored hard wood that looks beautiful next to the finished cedar of the old boxes. The sections have several coats of tung oil finish. The boxes are lined in leather. Each box has a 1/4" wool felt pad covered in leather to cushion the pens. The image inside the lid is either a creation of mine, a custom design or a design of yours.
